I agree with you stephanieanne, I think stress is a major plays a major role in MS and maybe is what causes the illness in the first place. I think to answer your question, is like answering why did I get MS? It is a difficult question to answer So, if I was not working, and was more able to control my stress, maybe the 2nd relapse would not have been so bad, and I would not have a numb arm. During my 2nd relapse, I was under alot of stress with trying to keep my job, having problems writing, horrible fatigue, and just not knowing what the problem was, having all of that and working was my STRESS which exacerbated my problems.
Personally, I think that these symptoms, relapses, flareups are different for everyone, that STRESS is a major player in the MS game. The 2nd one lasted about 3 months and with this one I had 2 steroid iv's about 6 weeks apart, I ended up with a numb right arm, arm pain, L'hermittes, wobbley walking, so I ended up with more MS type problems, I was dx'd about a month after my 2nd Steroid IV. I have had 2 flare ups 1 lasted about 8 weeks w/out steroid iv, bed rest, not working took that one away, by the time I got to the Neuro it was all gone, and he dx'd me with a virus or Transverse Myelitis, I had no residual effects except for L'Hermittes, which at the time I didn't even know what that was.
